Mark could put the likely reason Captain Roy was beaten down to the early stages of the races at Riccarton on Saturday and can hope for better when the colt has his third start on the middle day of the Cup meeting on November 14

“Kin just said what you could see. He began well but then had to be ridden hard to hold his place on the rail in   short race and that cost  him later in the straight. I was still pleased with him.Just his second start and a longer distance (1000m) should suit him”                            “There’s always another day mate”

It was  a furious pace too. The winner ran the 800 in 45 and change and the last 600 broke 32! Even on a day of fast times  it was a slick split for a 1 race veteran.

However Mark will be back in action next weekend with BUSTER SHAW who will be running at Ashburton.

Captain Roy

Meanwhile there is no breathing space with Mark in charge of non track operations at Kaikour tomorrow.
