THROWYAARMSAROUND ME has been a “shuttle” horse for Purdon Racing in recent times but he is an export horse after racing at Addington on Friday. And Nathan rates him probably the best chance for the stable on the night.
“It’s his last start for us and the way he has been going he should go out on a good note” Nathan said
“His draw is not the best but it is a 2600 trip and he should be fine”
Throwyaarmsaround brought off a coup at Addington in early May in his debut from Rolleston after campaigning out of the Tony Herlihy stable for most of his career which included posting a 2200m win at Cambridge in better than 2.40 and a 1.55.3 win over a mile. Tony also trained the dam,Time and Tide, and a half-brother,Mr Kaplan, a mare whose name may mislead -the whole family have eclectic names, none of the boring old sameness-and who races in the same interests, also posted smart form during a stay at Rolleston including a G1 placing in the Standardbred Breeders.
Nath is happy that RUBIRA in the Welcome Stakes can give the stable its 2nd G1 win in successive weeks in spite of a tricky gate. The small field, rather surprising since the race has received a huge stake boost and G1 status for the first time since 2012,will aid that.
The return of G1 status for the Welcome looks a great move but the rather crowded juvenile Group calendar may have worked against it this time.
“He will have to work in the run and he is ready for that. I am confident he is ready to go his best race”
Nathan expects likely favourite Got the Chocolates from the hot Dunn stable to probably lead and be the one to beat.
PARTY CENTRAL may not beat Rubira but is not out of contention.
“He is a bit underrated I feel.He can run the times and just slides under the radar at the moment”
CARRERA RAPIDO is up against “bet of the night” Throwyaarmsaround me and may have to play second fiddle from a wide gate, with Sam Thornely gaining the drive.
“He’s going along ok but he has to get a good trip and it won’t be easy from there”
A leading bet for the stable will also be a first as EYELINER ,a daughter of Lazarus, aims at a breakthrough win in a filly and mare race early in the card. Nathan earlier reported her trial as “very good toward the race we are aiming her for” and this should be it. The stable has not had many Lazarus youngsters on the books and this filly was regarded as the most likely from an early stage. But the pickings will not be large
