There options on the outcome of Shezsofast’s return to racing at Cambridge and Nathan much prefers one over all others.

Bred by Phil Fleming Shezsofast, thanks  to a heady drive from Andre Poutama, returned co-owners Jim and Ann Gibbs to a place they know well-the Group 1 winner’s circle- last September in the Caduceus Classic. She is now second up after a moderate fresh run at Alexandra Park that Nathan is hopeful was track related.

“Dad and others noted there was a lot of top on the track that night and it was wet and she would not have been the only one not quite getting to grips with it if that was the case. She has always preferred a good firm surface”

Nathan is hopeful the run will lead to a backup at Alexandra Park in the next few weeks but there are other quite different  outcomes.

“She has had a few issues and setbacks involving leg and virus problems so there has been talk of retiring her to stud. If  she doesn’t some up that is an option that will be considered again. I am hoping she can show her best before that would happen”

He is confident on her work that she has most of the Cambridge field covered with a little reservation over the Cran and Chrissie Dalgety-trained Bettor Belle who is currently based in the north.

“She is dropping from a top field and looks the one to beat”

Nathan was happy with the band of two year olds who made their public debuts on Tuesday.

Jiliby Jellybean (Sweet Lou-Claire Beach-Somebeachsomewhere) ; Envy of Angels (Bettor’s Delight-Spellbound-Art Major) Beware the Storm (Bettor’s Delight-Veyron-Mach Three) and Almost Guaranteed (Art Major-Betty Grace-Bettor’s Delight) had an easy run around amongst a pack for the first time.

“It was just their first go so it was an experience thing. They can go back next week and we will see how we go from there”

Any clues about who might be top of the class ?

“Too early to tell” said Nathan who holds a share in Almost Guaranteed.

“If I was to guess at this stage it might be Beware the Storm (last in the heat), Jean Feiss’s one but we won’t know a lot until they have done a bit more”
