Akuta trialled in outstanding fashion at Pukekohe Saturday and Nathan can’t wait to see him carrying the colours raceday.
“He’s such a brilliant horse you love to see him at the races. At this stage it looks like he will run in the Founders Cup on March 10 if all goes according to plan”
That is a week before a huge night on the 17th featuring Millwood Nike in the Peter Breckon Memorial and a Sires Stakes heat for the three year old males, Sherlock,Sinbad and With Style.
Akuta, driven by Brent Mangos, only had Copy That as a rival in his heat on Saturday and they ran home in a sharp 27 last 400 as a nice sharpening run.
The news around Self Assured is not quite as happy but certainly not sad.
“He had a foot issue which put him back a week.So he will trial probably in the next week and the programmes will dictate from there. There is a nice race for them on the 24th” Nathan said.
Self Assured is looking for his second Auckland Cup success.
The filly Sucitra is under a cloud with a mild tendon tear which is likely to sideline her from upcoming features.
The stable has only had 23 starters this season but is 4th on the winning stakes list and close to lifting that position dramatically in coming weeks.
