Nathan felt that ALECTO’S “on and then off” tempo in her trial at Addington on Wednesday was something to worry about-until he realised the cause of it.

“She is a very relaxed filly and she will take it easy on you if she doesn’t realise its race time. I had made a little gear change to sharpen her up. It didn’t work too well. She would jump up on the bit for a while and then drop it and lose  her best momentum. It was a worry at the time but I realised it was that change of gear was the cause so all is well”

Alecto, who  has had a unbelievable run of bad luck in her recent racing mainly due to penalty draws, was one of a group of two year olds on show at Addington and Nathan and Mark were pleased with all of them.

“They all did what was wanted. It is a pity INCENTIVISE has a tough marble on Tuesday and SHEZSOFAST will need some solid work before Show Day  but WAT NEXT seems to be ticking over well.So it is all looking good at this stage”

Nathan said CHASE A DREAM got a “pass mark” for his trial with Mark in the bike while he was “100 per cent happy” with RUBIRA who settled back on a fair pace and finished strongly on the back of Chase a Dream.

“Chase a Dream is still catching up and he will need more strong work leading into Tuesday.”

He reported that Mark was very happy with Akuta who was asked to sprint three times in the Kaikoura Cup and he continues to be on course for the Cup on Tuesday.

PIC: Chase a Dream urged to the front in a higher class heat on Wednesday when he finished second.Mark did not set a hot pace the overall time just 2.30 (57.8:27.8)
