For the first time in a while I feel more confident  we might  pick up a couple “ is Nathan’s encouraging summation of the Purdon Racing team at Alexandra Park on Friday.

“I still expect all of them to improve and you can never be confident just how a race will be run to suit but they are on the up and we are in with a few chances”

Those start with WAT NEXT in the 4.53 and the betting public know it. She lists at odds-on on the TAB.

“Very happy with where she is at this time in and while I know she will improve you would think she would have to be shaping up against most of these if she is going to be a force in the bigger races coming up from that gate.

Ideally I’d be liking something like Josh Dickie’s drive, a debut stable runner, who used to be with the Dalgety’s and has pace out of the gate,to come across and maybe we can get a sit. I am confident she will run well”

But she is not Nathan’s tip of the night.

That belongs to JUST US TWO in the 7.57 who rates at $2.10.

“I am really pleased with the way he has gone on from that last run. He has the right gate. There are a couple of smart ones up against us. The Hughes runner is one I will be keeping an eye on: Lucky As is a hard hitter with gate speed and Barry and Scott have a strong chance. But we have options from the gate if something wants to go out early-and a couple of them can. This guy is getting better with racing though”

That leaves one of the most interesting races of the night the deputy of ENVY OF ANGELS whose rather extravagant name is matched by the pedigree as he is a son a the outstanding racemare Spellbound. What is more co-owner Mark is the driver so the best opportunity is sure to be given!

“I think he is more of a three year old in type. He has finished back in his trial this time in but on the back of one. While I don’t expect him to be winning at this early stage he has given me the impression driving him that he will be capable of pulling out a bit extra when the chips are down. That is why being in the finish won’t surprise me and why I think time is his friend. He just gives you the feeling there is a lot more to come”

Envy of Angels has drifted from the opening quote of $4.50 but that seems to have been a safety measure by the bookmakers given his experience.

Stablemate PRINCESS KREKA has the right gate too and is not short changed in the driving department with The Iceman in the cart but is set a stiffer task against the males as a winning hope.

One win on any given night is tops. Two even better. Hold the phone.

PIC: Wat Next on Sale Day. Even better now.
