The gate from hell has not discouraged Nathan from dreaming of a blessed result in Auckland Cup on Tuesday with Don’t Stop Dreaming going into the race very well and as fit as possible given his leadup.
“Maybe 5 per cent off where he was going into the Cup at Addington but not far away. He’s doing well. We can’t control what happens early from inside the second row though the horse in front can step so will see what happens. He doesn’t seem to be suited by the staying races looking at him but enjoys them. He’s relaxed and doesn’t get on the toe. It helps in long races”
Perhaps surprisingly Merlin is not the rival Nathan fears most.
“I think Republican Party might be the toughest. Good stayer and comes into it on a high”
Mr Kaplan is an improver in an easier race than the Queen of Hearts.
“A little disappointed she wasn’t third with the run but gone on well and this not as tough”
Vessem had to come from a long way back at Motukarara and pleased Nathan.
“He showed he was up to them. He can go to Nelson now there is a 3000m race there that will suit him”
